Suwannee River, February 6-12, 2010
FULL
$525 pp, double occupancy
This is a river we've been wanting to explore for years, and we've figured
out a great way to do it! Origin to outfall, we will paddle this long river in
5 sections - starting at it's headwaters in the Okefenokee Swamp, moving into the
limestone bluff area in Florida, on past the section where springs dominate the
character, and finally out to the Gulf of Mexico where it lends sweetness into
the salty waters.Daily trips will be approximately 8-12 miles and shuttle
service will be provided on one-way trips.
This trip will be 7 days and 6
nights and include all lodging, 5 guided kayak trips (3 by author and naturalist
Lars Andersen) and a couple of breakfasts. Price is $525 per person. We will
spend 2 nights in cabins in the Okefenokee, 2 nights in cabins at Suwanee River
State Park and 2 nights in a B&B in Cedar Key on the Gulf.
This trip includes
the following:
Lodging: 2 nights each at Stephen Foster State Park Cabins
(Okefenokee West entrance), Suwannee River State Park Cabins, and Cedar Key
B&B.
Kayak trips:
- Okefenokee Swamp (headwaters of Suwannee River) Day
2
- Suwannee River Day 3
- Ichetucknee and Santa Fe Rivers) Day 4
- Lower Suwannee River National Wildlife
Refuge Day 5
- Gulf of Mexico (or rest day) Day 6
Guide and shuttle service is included.
The trip price does NOT
include:
Transportation to and from the trip, transportation between
sites or kayaking equipment (kayak rental is NOT included, and is about $30
per trip - most people are bringing their own kayaks).
There is a $5 per car entrance fee to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, and there may be
other launch fees at sites, which are usually in the $5 range. This price
only includes two meals (the breakfasts at the B&B). All other meals are
on your own, and I will help coordinate this to make it easier on
everyone.
