Rice Culture in the ACE Basin

  • Spend the morning  kayaking  through the ACE Basin, the heart of the  rice-growing region of SC.

  • Enjoy a picnic lunch made with locally-grown rice.
  • In the afternoon, take a bike tour of an ACE Basin plantation, now a preserved Wildlife Management Area.
  • Take home a bag of locally-grown rice as a souvenir.

Here are some full-day tours that will be coming soon!

Shrimp

  • Kayak into the salt marsh to learn about salt marsh and shrimp ecology, and learn to throw a cast net to catch shrimp like the locals do.
  • Take a tour of a working shrimp boat and let the captain explain what all of that rigging is for!
  • Eat a fresh shrimp lunch, the take some local, fresh-caught shrimp home with you.
Oysters

  • Kayak over the state's most productive oyster beds and learn about management practices in use.
  • Meet a local oysterman who will show you how oysters are harvested in our area.
  • Eat some local roasted oysters (in season).

Gullah

  • Kayak to the Penn Center to learn about the history of the Gullah.
  • Take a tour of St. Helena Island with a Gullah descendant and and learn about the Gullah today.
  • Enjoy some native Gullah food for lunch!

Yoga on the Beach

  • Spend the morning  kayaking through the calm waters of the lagoon at Hunting Island State Park.

  • Make landfall on a remote beach and have a one-hour session with certified yoga teacher Kathy Folsom. Her emphasis on structural alignment and breath awareness will bring us into greater connection with the sea that will   surround us.
  • Enjoy a healthy picnic lunch. 
  • Kayak back through the state park to our starting point.
$100 per person
